Page 5 – Pokesdown from the British Newspaper Archive: Bournemouth Guardian,1899, Dr Dickie

The British Newspaper Archive has digitised copies of The Bournemouth Guardian newspaper from September 1883 to December 1921.

What I like about this next snippet from an 1899 council meeting, is that it mentions Dr Dickie, whose house ‘Windermere’ is shown on the 1898 map of Pokesdown on history page 2, and Mr Bolton, who is like the founding father of urban Pokesdown, discussing advertising hoardings on the main road, as can be seen in the otherwise picturesque photo of Pokesdown Hill on history page 1:
