We will be running ‘Alpha’ here at Rosebery Park Baptist Church, Pokesdown, on Sundays at 4pm from 29th January to 5th March 2023, and after that, showing a video once a month.
Rosebery Park Baptist Church is at 812-814 Christchurch Road, between the shops in Boscombe centre and Pokesdown Station, postcode BH7 6DF.
The course originators describe ‘Alpha’ as “a series of interactive sessions that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith. No pressure. No follow up. No charge.”
The schedule on Alpha Sundays will be:
4.00-4.15 welcome, 2 songs (you don’t have to join in, you can just listen)
4.15-4.40 ‘Alpha’ video shown on the big screen in church. The video for each unit is between about 22 and 28 minutes long.
4.40-4.55 discussion in small groups of 5 to 6 people, guided by two church members
4.55-5.05 conclude
The first six topics were:
(1) Is There More To Life Than This? – 29th January
(2) Who Is Jesus? – 5th February
(3) Why Did Jesus Die? – 12th February
(4) How Can I Have Faith? – 19th February
(5) Why and How Do I Pray? – 26th February
(6) Why and How Should I Read the Bible? – 5th March
The once a month sessions will be:
16 April 2023 – How does God guide us?
14 May 2023 – Who is the Holy Spirit?
11 June 2023 – What does the Holy Spirit do?
9 July 2023 – How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?
13 August 2023 – How can I make the most of the rest of my life?
We are typically about 18-20 people in the afternoon services. If 5 or 6 people is a good number for a group then we should have three or four groups. Each group would sit around a low table in the main church. Each table would have two church members as leaders or guides. After the discussion has started someone will bring teas and coffees round to each table.
